Your Huntington Beach Cosmetic Dentist can Restore Damaged Teeth!

At the heart of a beautiful smile, you will find healthy teeth. Problems like discoloration are easy to overcome with professional teeth whitening. Cosmetic concerns like gaps can be disguised with custom-made porcelain veneers. But what do you do when teeth are damaged? It used to be that repair involved an amalgam filling or metal crown, perhaps even a metal bridge. Not anymore.

In the office of Huntington Beach cosmetic dentist Dr. Moretta, we are mindful of two things: aesthetic value and durability. Without both, tooth repair is just a basic service.

Tooth damage causes enough stress due to the pain and inconvenience something like a cavity brings. There is no need to then worry about losing the natural appearance your tooth once had. Fortunately, you don't have to. There are several methods of tooth repair available today, and when you visit your Huntington Beach cosmetic dentist, you know that the latest techniques will be used to restore structure as well as aesthetic beauty to your smile.

Tooth-colored Fillings

Small cavities are now commonly repaired with tooth-colored fillings rather than amalgam. There are a few benefits to this approach. First, and most obvious, a tooth-colored filling will blend into the rest of the smile instead of sticking out like a sore thumb. More than the attractiveness of this filling, though, there are structural advantages. While amalgam has long been perceived as the strongest filling material, the composite resin of a tooth-colored filling is also very durable; and this durability is maximized by the bonding technique used to retain the restoration.

Tooth Replacement

Sometimes, a damaged tooth or teeth cannot be saved. In such instances, we rely on modern materials and techniques to replace teeth that need to be extracted, or that are lost naturally.

The dental bridge can restore a line of teeth by closing a gap with a pontic. This artificial tooth sits on top of the gums, and is anchored in place with two dental crowns. Stability and appearance are gained. However, this treatment requires us to reduce two otherwise healthy teeth so they can anchor the tooth in between.

Dental implants are also commonly used to replace missing teeth. However, implants are not the tooth replacement, they are small cylinders that sit in the root position. these titanium posts integrate into the jawbone, creating the foundation for a crown, bridge, or full denture to function at optimal capacity.
